Early Bronco Steering Column
Selecting a replacement steering column for your early Bronco requires a bit of information. First, identify how you will be shifting the transmission in your Bronco. From the factory, all classic Ford Broncos shifted using a column shifter. For manual transmissions, they called this column shifter a three on the tree referring to the 3-speed manual transmission being shifted using a shift lever on the steering column (the tree). To retain this shifting method, you will need to rebuild your factory early Bronco steering column. We have the components needed to do this. The alternate option for a manual transmission is to move to a floor shifter mechanism and get a steering column with a smooth collar where there is no shifter on the column. We offer smooth tilt steering columns for floor shift as well as a conversion smooth collar to use on the factory steering column.
For automatic shifting in a classic Ford Bronco, you have more options. We offer tilt steering columns with the automatic shifter built-in or you can rebuild your factory 73-77 Ford Bronco automatic steering column using components supplied by WILD HORSES. Additionally, if you choose to run a floor shifter for your automatic transmission, you can opt for a smooth steering column for your Bronco.
WILD HORSES recommends upgrading your early Bronco to a tilt steering column. A tilt steering column allows you to adjust the steering wheel up and down for a comfortable ride. Replacing your early Bronco steering column with a tilt column also gives you a brand new steering column with 100% new parts. We partnered with IDIDIT to develop direct-fit tilt steering columns that bolt right into your classic Ford Bronco. These columns use the original 74-77 Bronco steering wheel. We also offer GM style tilt steering columns for those looking to do a more custom early Bronco build. The GM style columns are extremely versatile as there are many steering wheel options readily available to customize your steering column.
