Selecting an Early Bronco Water Pump

At WILD HORSES 4x4, we have several options available to replace the water pump in your 66-77 Ford Bronco. The primary question in selecting which early Bronco water pump is best for your project, is identifying the engine setup that you have in the Bronco. If you are running a factory 289 or 302 V8 engine with the original Bronco front drive, the water pump outlet will exit on the passenger side. This water pump design is unique to the early Bronco making identification of a stock early Bronco water pump relatively simple.

If you are running a serpentine front drive on your Bronco, whether you have the stock 289/302 engine or have swapped it for a later model Ford 5.0L, the water outlet will exit on the driver side of the engine. To run this type of water pump on an early Bronco, you will need to either run a cross-over lower radiator hose, or a reverse outlet radiator. If you are running a serpentine setup on the Bronco, you will also need to confirm that the water pump you purchase matches the engine in use on the Bronco. The most common options are the 84-93 Ford Mustang 5.0L or the 96-01 Ford Explorer 5.0L engine. We offer water pumps to work with either of these engine setups.
