If you’re done dealing with rusted tanks, limited range, and thin factory steel, the M1A1 Stainless Steel Early Bronco 23-Gallon Fuel Tank is the upgrade you need. Built for hard use and long miles, it adds capacity, protection, and modern fuel system flexibility in one heavy-duty package.

M1A1 Stainless Steel Early Bronco 23-Gallon Fuel Tank

Designed for Carbureted Fuel Systems

WILD HORSES has pushed the Early Bronco fuel system into the modern era with the M1A1 23-Gallon Stainless Steel Fuel Tank. Built for Broncos that see real miles and real trail use, this tank replaces thin factory steel with heavy-duty stainless and smart design upgrades that solve rust, capacity, and durability issues in one shot. With increased fuel capacity, serious armor, and future-ready fuel system provisions, the M1A1 is built to outlast the truck it’s mounted under.

Pro Tip: This fuel tank is designed for a carbureted fuel system. If you have an EFI setup, please see our part #966400. If you are running a carburetor now and plan to switch to EFI at a later date, purchase this fuel tank and later you can purchase our EFI upgrade kit.

  • 14-Gauge Stainless Steel Construction – Fully TIG-welded stainless steel eliminates rust issues and delivers long-term durability with clean, distortion-free welds

  • 23-Gallon Capacity – Adds roughly 10 gallons over the stock rear fuel tank for longer range between fill-ups

  • Heavy-Duty Skid Plate – 3/16" thick armor plate protects the tank from rocks, ledges, and trail debris

  • Future-Ready Fuel Pickup Module – Designed to run with or without an in-tank fuel pump and includes ports for fuel supply, return, and venting

  • Custom Reed Switch Sending Unit – Tank-specific sending unit provides accurate fuel level readings

  • Side Drain Plug – Makes fuel system service and maintenance easier

  • Optimized Ground Clearance – Clean fitment improves off-road clearance and keeps a low-profile look from the rear

Installed the Wild Horses 23-gallon tank without a body lift, and it fits great! My setup is carbureted, and the look from the rear with a 2.5” suspension lift on 33s is spot-on. Even without the bumper, it blends perfectly with the build. Highly recommend for anyone considering this upgrade. - Dusty C. on Facebook

"I put the WH M1A1 23 gallon stainless steel tank in mine, love it. Best way to go in my opinion. A little pricey but worth it in the long run. Get the skid plate as well!!" - Matt K. on Facebook

"We got our hands on the M1A1 from Wild Horses Broncos, and we're thrilled with how it turned out! We needed to tweak it a bit—shortened it by roughly 32mm to fit our unique specs. The real game-changer was how seamlessly the fuel pump and level sensor integrated with our system. Although the frame had been beefed up by a previous owner with a 1/2" plate on both sides, which posed a small challenge, everything else fell perfectly into place. Awesome product!" - Foreignfabrication on Instagram

An absolute quality work of art in design and welding.Iam glad i made this upgrade, only issues I had ,was that somehow I got a pickup gasket with only 8 holes instead of 16. I was able to Magiver it with a leather hole punch, also they should just include the extended filler hose with kit, you cannot swap out a stock tank without it due to the Sherman having a metal filler 3 inches shorter than stock tank. Also make sure drain plug is tight directions doesn't even mention the drain plug. That aside I highly recommend this upgrade fits like a glove, skidplate is much beefier than stock. Truly the nicest tank on the market!

I finished the tank installation a couple of days ago. It took about an hour to install the fuel module and sending unit. It took about 5 hours for a buddy and I to remove the old tank and install the new one. You definetly need two people for this install. It was fairly easy but you do need to wrestle the fuel filler inlet and vent outlet on the tank past the frame rail. The installation kit comes with all the hardware needed for the installation. Some tweaking of the tailpipes with be needed because they interfere with the mounting tabs and candy cane bolts. This is a very well thought out tank. Wild Horses hit a home run with this tank.
