Testing your Dana 44 for bad Ball Joints: There's a simple way to test if your ball joints are bad without tearing apart the whole front end. Ensure your Bronco's parking brake is on with the transmission in park - first gear if a manual - and the rear wheels are chocked. Jack up the front end so the Bronco's front tires are lifted off the ground. Make sure everything is stable. At the outside of your driver front tire, grab the tire with one hand at the top and one hand at the bottom. Attempt to rock the tire back and forth (not side to side as the tires are supposed to be able to turn that direction). If there is movement as you rock the tires, your ball joints are shot and should be replaced asap.
