my 76 bronco manual shift on the column has this type of shift linkage retainer, looks like it was installed from the factory, does it also need the item# 8388 shift linkage retainer clip installed on the rod?

We have seen a few different styles. Some with this clip and a slot in the rod, some with a hole and cotter pin, and some press fit. Best bet, check your rod(s).
