What exactly is the potential compatibility issue with this pulley set? The current engine and pulleys on my 72 302 are original, but the harmonic balancer is not.

The Harmonic balancer is usually the only gotcha. The pulley is designed for a balancer with a flat face, or mounting surface. A balancer with a raised mounting surface, usually pushes the pulley out too far. See part #8057 for example.
