Ive had my custom steering shaft installed fir a few year and love it. The one thing about it I'm not sure if its right or not. The shaft is completely compressed together when installed, which leaves no room for compression in the event of a front end collision. Should I shorten the sleeved upper segment? If so how much?
Collapsible Lower Steering Shaft | Custom Built | 66-77 Ford BroncoYou can cut either the upper, and/or the lower shaft. The upper shaft would be easier alone, as the lower does have a notch, You should be able to reduce it a couple inches without issue. If you want more than that, we would shorten both. Just make sure when installed, or when done, the tension spring is covered by the outer shaft.
