Full description

This Early Bronco Fuel Gauge is the kind of part that makes your dash look and function like it should. Built for the 1966–77 Ford Bronco stock gauge cluster, it bolts right in and looks just like the original. Ensures accurate fuel level readings while keeping your Bronco looking all-original.

Early Bronco Fuel Gauge for Stock Cluster

This OE-style Fuel Gauge is made specifically for the 1966–77 Ford Bronco and fits directly into your factory gauge cluster. It’s a faithful reproduction of the original, designed to restore accurate gas level readings without altering the vintage look of your dash. The only difference from the original is the absence of the Ford logo and part number on the face—details that aren't visible once installed. Whether you’re chasing down electrical issues or refreshing a tired cluster, this gauge helps bring your Bronco’s interior back to spec while ensuring accurate engine fuel level readings.

  • Fits 1966–77 Ford Bronco – Designed to mount into the factory gauge cluster with a direct fit.

  • OE-style design – Matches the look and function of the original factory fuel gauge.

  • Accurate gas level readings – Get reliable fuel system monitoring, just like your Bronco had from the factory.

  • Essential for restorations or repairs – A must-have for dash rebuilds, gauge swaps, or replacing dead temp gauges.

If your original Early Bronco fuel gauge is dead or unreliable, this OE-style replacement brings back factory function and clean dash styling with no guesswork.

How to Test the Factory Fuel Gauge

How to Test the Factory Fuel Gauge

66-77 Ford Bronco & 61-66 Ford Truck

If your factory fuel gauge is reading empty, full, or not moving at all, you can quickly narrow down whether the problem is the gauge, wiring, voltage regulator, or sending unit with a simple ground test.

What You’ll Need

  • Jumper wire with alligator clips (or a short piece of wire)

  • Key to turn ignition ON

  • Basic hand tools (if accessing sender at tank)

Step 1 – Turn the Key On

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (engine does not need to be running).

Step 2 – Locate the Sending Unit Wire

At the fuel tank, locate the single wire connected to the fuel sending unit.
On dual tank Broncos, test one tank at a time.

Disconnect this wire from the sender.

Step 3 – Ground the Sender Wire

Using your jumper wire, ground the sender wire to a clean metal surface on the frame or body.

Watch the fuel gauge while doing this.

Gauge Response Results:

  • Gauge moves to FULL
→ Gauge, wiring, and instrument voltage regulator are working properly.
→ Problem is likely the fuel sending unit or tank ground.

  • Gauge does NOT move at all
→ Possible bad gauge, bad instrument voltage regulator (IVR), no power to gauge, or broken wire.

  • Gauge always reads FULL (even before grounding)
→ Sender wire is shorted to ground somewhere between tank and gauge.

Step 4 – Check for Power at the Gauge (If Needed)

If the gauge does not respond:

  1. Remove the instrument cluster.

  2. Verify 12V power is reaching the instrument voltage regulator.

  3. Confirm the IVR is pulsing power (approx. 5V average output).

  4. Inspect gauge studs for corrosion or looseness.

Bonus Tip – Bench Testing the Gauge

You can simulate fuel levels using resistors:

  • ~10 ohms = FULL

  • ~73 ohms = EMPTY

Connect the resistor between the sender post and ground with key ON to verify sweep range.

Common Culprits

  • Poor tank ground strap

  • Failed instrument voltage regulator

  • Worn or corroded sending unit

  • Pinched or chafed sender wire
