So to be perfectly honest, I am a Jeep guy with a 77 Jeep CJ5, powered by a SBC 350c backed by a T14 3 speed. I saw your shifter and thought, hey I can make that work on mine too! I crossed the Ford line and stole your shifter for my Jeep! It works great! I had to lower the center point on the shifter considerably but it works!

The trail banger is the ideal way to drop an NP-435 into a classic Bronco. Since it relocates the shifter back to a more natural location and shortens the throw between gears it can't be matched. The mechanic that installed my transmission couldn't get over what a great idea it was once he figured out what it was.

Wild Horses was very helpful in getting information to me as to whether this shift kit would work on a full size 1982 Bronco with a NP-435 tranny. They said that once I do a dry mock up of the shifter in my Bronco, if it didn't fit I could return it. It fit just fine. The biggest challenge was welding a new stub onto the cutoff shifter of the original tranny. In these later years the shift arm bends right out of the top loader, so the bend has to be cut off, and a new straight stub welded on for attachment to the shift kit clamp. The instructions provided were very good from Wild Horses. Very important to try the shifter out, then loosen up the clamp on the shift arm, and make very minor "wiggle" adjustment to find the sweet spot for shifting up into first gear. One improvement to the shifter could be made. Rather than have the large stainless pivot bolts and their threads be in direct contact with the holes on the large connecting lever, these bolts should be smaller and bronze bushings used instead for a more perfect fit. There is about .005 inch play on both ends of the connecting lever with the current configuration. Removing a total of .010 inch of total play would make the shifter even better yet.

Too long and bent the wrong way. I cut the rod off to make a short straight shifter and added 1" to the "hole tab" so the shifter is now straight up and down.

I had a shift collar size other than the two choices (looked like it was just a mistake when the original shifter was made) which was easy to correct and use one of the available sizes. Install was very easy, and it puts the shifter right where you want it. Another great product from WH!
