How to use a manual choke control for cold starts: To start a cold truck or Bronco with a manual choke, begin by pulling the choke knob out before turning the key—this limits airflow and enriches the fuel mixture, making cold starts easier. With the choke engaged, turn the ignition and start the engine. Once it fires up, let it run for a minute or two to warm up. As the engine temperature begins to rise and it runs smoothly, gradually push the choke knob back in to allow more air into the mix. You may need to adjust it slowly as the engine warms to keep it from stalling. Once fully warmed up, the choke should be all the way in for normal driving.
