Product Overview:

Here is the simple straight forward way to get a Saginaw/Delphi pump on your 96-2001 Explorer 5.0. The bracket set will replace the entire stock driver side aluminum bracket which held the A/C compressor and the steering pump. The bracket set is for non-A/C use only. You will not be able to mount the A/C compressor when finished. What you will be able to do is bolt on our Saginaw/Delphi style steering pump. Many people have found the stock Explorer steering pumps leave a lot to be desired, especially when running less than street air pressure in off-road conditions. This kit is not designed to fit the 351W.

Asked by Chris, January 20, 2024

Q: I bought this kit and now need hoses that work with it. It's hard to tell with your description on site if it will work.

Answered by sales - January 22, 2024

A: We would need to know what steering box you have in order to advise about pressure hose. Because there are so many options for boxes. Your best bet is to call in with that info. 209-400-7200 if you are not sure what kind of box you have shoot us some pics to sales@wildhorses4x4,com and we can help identify it for you.

Asked by Jim Mangiameli, August 16, 2020

Q: Can I use my same hoses? Or do I need to get new ones? If so do you carry the correct ones I will need? Thanks

1 Answer

Answered by sales - August 17, 2020

A: You may be able to adapt your existing hose depending on what you have. We may also have a new replacement hose as well depending on which steering box you are using.

Asked by Rob, March 20, 2020

Q: Can I just get the triangle idler pulley bracket with the hardware meant for that? If not just the idler pulley bracket, can I buy the bracket kit minus the pump, belt and hose?

1 Answer

Answered by sales - March 20, 2020

A: Check out our #2029. It is the bracket set, without the pump and belt. You get the idler and pump brackets, and the associated hardware.

Asked by Hank, September 1, 2016

Q: can the dual return HD pump be substituted for difference between pump price?

1 Answer

Answered by sales - September 1, 2016

A: Yes, we can do that no problem. There would be an additional $20 upcharge, for the dual return pump.

Asked by Stan, April 30, 2016

Q: Will this work with newer 351W engines (1990 Bronco)? Also, is the belt sold separately from the kit?

1 Answer

Answered by sales - May 2, 2016

A: This kit is not designed to work with 351 engines. Some have used it as a starting point, and adapted from there. The belt is our part # 2064, but is not offered online.

Asked by Corey, December 30, 2015

I modified this kit to work with a 393 Windsor in a 1985 Ford Ranger. The original Explorer pump was terrible, but I now have excellent power steering. It's like a totally different vehicle. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars rather than 5 is that none of the bolt holes lined up correctly, they all had to be opened up slightly for clearance. Even the pump to bracket holes were slightly off. All in all, that's not a big deal to me, as the my power steering is effortless and exceeds my expectations.

Overall, it's a nice kit. Sturdy brackets, and quality pump/ reservoir. I ended up making new spacers for the mounting brackets since the ones in the kit were all about 1/4" too short and I didn't want to have stacks of washers to get everything lined up.
