Body Lift Questions and Answers
Will installing a body lift weaken the body of my Bronco?
While body lifts on some vehicles may cause a problem, we don't find this to be true with the Bronco. However, we've seen sloppy installations of many good products, so care must be taken on any modification to insure proper installation. The Bronco body is mounted to the frame in eight spots. The second set back from the front seems to be the weakest spot. Sometimes we see the body bent down over the mount at this location on Broncos with no body lift. Perhaps this is from jumping the vehicle or sometimes there is excessive damage from rust. Body lift or not, the Bronco is still mounted in the same eight spots with the same amount of surface contact.
What additional things will I have to consider when installing a body lift?
This depends on the year and options of your Bronco, different things in this list will apply. Fan shroud relocation , clutch rod, shift rods, sometimes brake lines from master cylinder to valve, rear gas tank hoses, E-brake cables, steering shaft angles and possible bumper relocation.
Will I need to move the radiator?
Some people do opt to lower the radiator. We have never found this to be necessary and have never seen a temperature increase due to leaving the radiator in the original location. We opt to lower the fan shroud on the radiator and use a piece of sheet metal (fan shroud plate) to block off the lower part of the shroud so the air is still pulled through the shroud.
How hard is it to install a body lift?
We have a standard answer for this kind of question. It depends on your own abilities. We do installations here every day, so it seems fairly easy to us. The hardest part is getting the old rubber body mounts out (they're usually rusted together).
Custom Steering Shafts
This is the best option for addressing the steering shaft angle when installing a body lift. We build these to order using only the best components available. At the time of order we will need to know the type of steering box, size and spline count, the amount of body lift you are using and the year of the steering column. Urethane Body Mounts 66-77 Bronco | |

Item #: 1900 Our polyurethane body mounts are a must for frame up projects or just to replace old worn out stock rubber body mounts. We use black graphite impregnated urethane for the self lubricating qualities and they don't change color like some of the colored urethane. Our mounting hardware (sold separately) is all 7/16" grade 8 bolts, all the correct size thick cad plated washers and cad plated mount inserts to prevent over tightening. Steering Yoke 3/4 X 3/4 | |

Item #: 1964 These yokes can be used to relieve shaft angles on one piece 3/4" round steering shafts like those found on 66-75 manual steering Broncos. The one piece shafts are easy to identify because they have no rag joint or connector yoke other than at the steering box. Custom Lower Steering Shaft | |

Item #: 2161NET We build each of these steering shafts to order. Each custom shaft has two Flaming River billet universal joints, one at each end. Our shafts are zinc plated for good looks and corrosion resistance. The special double D shaft is collapsible and expandable. We machine a lube and spring reservoir into the shaft to provide lifetime lubrication. A dampening spring is added to provide tension between the tube and shaft just like the factory 76-77 collapsible shafts. All shafts come with a rubber dust boot to help keep out contaminants. WH has solved countless steering issues and we build in excess of 50 different lower shafts for all the different combinations that have come our way. These shafts are an excellent way to solve steering shaft angle problems that can result from body lift installations. For manual steering equipped Broncos (66-75) drilling and tapping your existing upper shaft will be necessary for installation. For 73-77 Broncos with a two-piece steering shaft, this will completely replace the lower shaft and it is basically a bolt-in installation. Ron Davis Radiator Shroud | |

Item #: 5008 Ron Davis Aluminum Radiator Fan Shroud. To complement any engine compartment add one of our aluminum fan shrouds. These will fit most radiators we have seen in the Early Broncos. We offer a stock version and a 2" body lift specific version. This is a must if you expect to keep your Bronco cool on the trail.
